Natural, nutritious, and easy to digest, San Daniele is a perfect addition to any diet. The secret is that it contains very little fat and all the “good” monounsaturated fats so is perfect for sportspeople, children and the elderly, and anyone on a low-calorie diet. If you want a source of complete proteins, vitamins (B1, B6, and B3) and minerals (phosphorus, zinc, and potassium), a slice of San Daniele is just what you need.

Colour, aroma and flavour

The unmistakeably characteristic colour, aroma, and flavour of San Daniele set it apart from other hams. The lean part of the ham has a pinkish-red colour, while the outer fat is pure white. The more mature the ham, the stronger the aroma, offering hints of crusty bread and notes of dried fruit and barley malt. The flavour is also unmistakeable: subtle yet deliciously tasty mixed with the tang of cured meat to create a perfectly balanced flavour that transforms every mouthful into a multisensory experience.

We select meat only from breeders authorised by the inspection body appointed by the Ministry of Agricultural, Food and Forestry Policies (MIPAAF). In accordance with the product specification, these breeders are limited to ten regions in central and northern Italy.

We are very selective about which breeders we choose. We cannot afford to be anything but selective if we want to maintain our high standards, which is why the animal inspections are so strict and why the quality of our ham is never compromised. Ever.

EU Protected Designation of Origin (PDO)

Prosciutto di San Daniele was granted Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) by the European Union in 1996 to protect the small area of origin and unique production methods.

The entire production chain for PDO products must comply with the specific rules set forth in the product specification and undergo a system of strict inspections carried out by a body authorised by the Ministry of Agricultural, Food and Forestry Policies (MIPAAF).
